February 14, 2008: Griffen's Pick and Giveaway!

If you’re looking for a bit of mystery for the little ones in your life, The Gifted Grasshopper has the perfect solution! Moose Tracks, by one of our favorite authors, Karma Wilson, is part game, part mystery. This rhyming, quirky story is filled with eccentric characters.

The narrator, who goes unseen until the final spread, finds evidence on every page that someone has been in his house because he detects moose tracks everywhere. He recalls a visit with a chipmunk who made fudge sundaes and a goose who played hokey-pokey with him. "But who left all those moose tracks?"

Youngsters will be completely and pleasantly caught off guard by the answer. They will also be asking to hear Moose Tracks again and again! Who doesn’t love a great mystery?
Solve this mystery today – visit The Gifted Grasshopper to purchase and enjoy this wonderful family story!

My very favorite read aloud book to my children (and boy is it hard to pick a favorite) is Alexander and the Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst. It is great for expressive reading and speaks to everyone about how some days are just stinky. My oldest child is 13 and even now, I can look at her and say "Some days are like that" and she will finish with "even in Australia". It usually producing a slight smile and a shrug of the shoulders.

Our favorite books right now include "Goodnight Moon" and a children's book of Bible stories. Both of my children know "Goodnight Moon" by heart, and they can "read" it to me now!

With three children of various ages, the favorites change frequently. But Goodnight Moon was a favorite for all of them.

Our favorite book to read when my daughter was younger was Pajama Time by Sandra Boynton. The rhyming text is so catchy, that everyone is saying or singing the words by the end of the book. Now that she is almost 4 our new favorite is The Boy Who Grew Flowers by Jen Wojtowicz (published by Barefoot Books). It is a creative story about kindness and acceptance.

My granddaughter loved me to read her the Junie B. Jones books; now that she can read they are still her favorite. She reads to me now.

My daughter most often requests "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" or one of the Five Little Monkeys books. My son has just started reading to me, so his first book is "Green Eggs and Ham."

our favorites book(s) to read are anything by Dr. Seuss: ava rose is almost 3 and loves the rhyming sounds of the words-- and makes up her own words to use in many of her daily activities! from 'hop on pop' to 'green eggs and ham' ... we heart Dr. Seuss!

My favorite book to read with my son is Llama Llama Mad at Mama. The pictures are beautiful, and the story is just hilarious. My son (he's three) has the book memorized, and when he throws a fit in the store like the little Llama in the story, I can quote the Mama from the story and he starts laughing and forgets his tantrum.

One of our favorites is "The Dot" by Peter Reynolds. I love what it "teaches" about creativity!
